Serena Williams’ recently publicised feud with Russian rival Maria Sharapova saw with an unsurprising dead-air moment of awkwardness this week in London, as the dominant marquee court supernovas unintentionally crossed paths during practice on the exact court at Wimbledon; both Sharapova and Williams were initially subject to be training ninety apart in proximity.

‘Like I said, I’m just here to focus on the tennis. I’m just here to play Wimbledon. It’s the premiere tournament in the world, of the year, so that’s what’s most important’ said Williams of Sharapova’s criticism of her personal life.

With Sharapova’s unceremonious exit at Wimbledon at the hands of Michelle Larcher De Brito, coupled with reigning Wimbledon singles champion, Serena Williams, classily advancing to the next round after ousting Caroline Garcia of France, the Michigan-born 5-time Wimbledon-winning superstar certainly has had the last laugh in the meantime.

Ironically, both Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova were also both believed to not have officially adhered to an all-white Wimbledon dress code, after sporting fluorescent orange underwear on court during live competition on national television. However, ruling states that underwear is not unequivocally listed in All-England clothing regulations at Wimbledon; Swiss superstar Roger Federer was reprimanded for wearing orange-soled white sneakers to accentuate the strictness of attire choices made at Wimbledon.

Belarussian sensation, Victoria Azarenka, who currently dates ‘Party Rock’ LMFAO hitmaker ,Redfoo, decidedly pulled out of her anticipated second round game via a sidelining injury. Azarenka joins a high-profile list of casualties in Marin Cilc, Caroline Wozniacki, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, John Isner, Maria Sharapova, and Radek Stepanek; all of whom have  sustained unexpected injuries on the iconic yet now questionable Wimbledon surface. With the shocking turn of events witnessed thus far, the cliche of practice makes perfect has never been truer…
