Starring: Chris Pratt, Jessica Chastain, Joel Edgerton

Director: Kathryn Bigelow

Runtime: 157 mins

Kathryn Bigelow demystifies and unravels the core of courageous conflict and unsung mental fortitude in gripping drama ‘Zero Dark Thirty’; based upon jaded reality of United States-Middle-East tumultuous turmoil, where the never-ending, decade-long manhunt for the worlds most wanted man (Osama Bin Laden) is sternly centralized in Bigelow’s second war outing following acclaimed Academy Award-winning ‘The Hurt Locker’ in 2010.

The persistently compelling account of tracking the 9/11 mastermind, courtesy of CIA analyst Maya (Jessica Chastain) , builds steady dramatic tension as the plot thickens in this political/militia game of cat and mouse despite it’s pacing shortcomings. The well-executed performance from Chastain is unemotionally restrained and vastly passive, that overall accentuates the authenticity of the character.

The futile attempts, the meticulous midgames, the propaganda, and surging suspenseful scenes are transparent in this gritty true story of touch-and-go uncertainty and unfolding document of detailed history changing events.

DEVGRU ace, Justin (Chris Platt), and Patrick (Joel Edgerton) Squadron Team Leader, aid feisty and confident Maya with their likewise intellectual, patriotic no-nonsense philosophy for retributional justice; as the one-upmanship from both sides rises higher.

A shocking intervention from US Navy SEAL team 6 implemented expertly on May 2011 visits the imminent declination and disenfranchisation of Al-Queda and the Taliban leader; which essentially single-handedly degenerated the US deficit south due to costly financial exportation of marines overseas, increased national security and closed circuit monitorization.

‘Zero Dark Thirty’ identifies the major motives and underlying in genius highlighted in this dramatized realism based masterpiece from undoubtedly one of the finest directors today. The overall polish is far from the standardized, Hollywood, glossy rendition, whereas the acting technically is vastly lifelike in the vein of fellow war genre gem ‘United 93’ (2006).  A soldier salute is certainly warranted for this epically proportioned, one-sided account of a figurative ten years in the making.
