Royal Rumble 2013

Finally…The Rock comes back to the WWE to be the eyebrow-raising, trailblazing, most electrifying man in all of entertainment on January 7 RAW in Tampa, FL; which is road to Royal Rumble 2013 (January 27) pay-per-view. The 7-time world WWE champion aims to capture the gold for the 8th time in his career in Phoenix, AZ.

Current champion, CM Punk, who has held the championship for a never ending 400 days (November 20, 2011) will go one on one with Ryback at WWE RAW on Monday, to determine who will face The Rock at Royal Rumble for the WWE Championship.

The Hollywood superstar ($1.5bn box office gross) last appearance on WWE programming was on July, 23 2012 during the historic RAW 1000 anniversary episode in St. Louis, MO, two months after the ‘Once in a lifetime’ confrontation with 12-time champion John Cena, in an epic battle for the ages at Wrestlemania XXVIII in Miami, FL in face of 75,000 strong.

The millions (and millions) of Team Bring It, and members of the WWE universe alike, are fully aware that there is unfinished business after the unexpected Pearl Harbor-like ambush from the ever-smug and overconfidently condescending CM Punk at RAW 1000; thus transforming the ‘The best in the world’ into a diabolical and villainous heel overnight after the monumental show.

During six months of absenteeism of The Rock on TV, Dwayne Johnson had been filming upcoming blockbusters ‘Pain and Gain’ with Mark Wahlberg and Anthony Mackie, ‘Snitch’ and ‘Fast 6’ co-starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. ‘Pain and Gain’ which is set around two less than affluent Floridian gym testosterone-filled body builders who become involved in shady and criminal lifestyles is set for release on April 26. Acclaimed directer Michael Bay directed the mountain of muscle and protein powder-filled flick..

Excluding David Arquette, is it truly fathomable that an A-list cash generating machine can walk the red carpet with championship gold around ones waist without spelling PR stunt? Could an eighth title reign be on the cards for The Rock?

Major motion pictures may provide ‘The Great One’ excessive fortune and fame, the WWE on the other hand has always been a place to call home, embracing the iconic 40-year-old with open arms. Quite simply – The People’s Champion is one of, if not the greatest sports entertainer to ever lace up his boots.

Sports-entertainment pumps deep in the veins of the third generation superstar. Johnson’s father, ‘Soul Man’ Rocky Johnson (the first Black tag team titlist), his late great Grandfather, ‘High Chief’ Peter Maivai (multiple NWA
champion), the famed Anoia’i wrestling family which includes: Rikishi, The Usos, Yokozuna, Umaga, ‘Superfly’ Jimmy Snuka (WWE Hall Of Famer) are all relatives of the African-American/Samoan star. Rest assured, some day WWE Hall of fame awaits to induct The Rock into its elite and honorary pantheon when all is said and done.

The brahma bull is a big game hunter and rises to the ocassion as soon as his elevating entrance theme echoes through both arena and television screens, thriving off the adulation of the tens of thousands who witness boots to asses, penetrating people’s elbows and earth-shaking Rock Bottoms.

Who will be The Rock’s opponent at WWE Royal Rumble 2013? All will be revealed on January 7 when ‘The People’s Champion’ lights up Tampa.

There have been many fond memories in the career of the former NCAA football national champion (1991) with the Miami Hurricanes. These evoke recollections of where you were at that given moment in time – Wrestlemania XVIII against ‘Hollywood’ Hulk Hogan, legendary brutal battles with Mankind, the unforgettable feuds with the Texas rattlesnake – ‘Stonecold’ Steve Austin – and now fast foward to WWE Raw on January 7, 2013. History will be in the making as The Rock is set to administer another jabroni beating. Do you smell what the Rock is cooking?
